Our Favorite Local Charities and Volunteer Opportunities
We asked our agents and friends some of their favorite ways to get involved in Richmond Hill. The major takeaway? It doesn’t have to take a lot of time and money to make a difference.
Many people feel slightly out-of-place after moving to a new area, but volunteering can be a great way to make your new home really “feel like home.” That’s why we encourage our out-of-town buyers to get involved. Some of our favorite places to volunteer?
- Family Promise of Bryan County provides food, shelter, and support services for homeless families throughout the region. Volunteers can sign up to help families in need in a variety of ways, or they can help facilitate fundraising events.
- Bryan Bark Park: Richmond Hill is lucky to have an off-leash dog park for its furry residents to run and play. The park is a charitable nonprofit organization that relies on its volunteers and donors. If you love animals, there are many ways to get involved.
- The Cottage serves victims of abuse and violence in the local community. The organization relies on its volunteers who can get involved with both direct and indirect victim-service opportunities.
- The Dolphin Project is an all-volunteer and non-profit research, education, and conservation organization dedicated to the protection of the wild Bottlenose dolphins that inhabit our Georgia coast. Volunteers assist with research and fundraising.
- Your school, church, or neighborhood: Although not necessarily a charitable organization like the ones listed above, getting involved with a group that feels so close to home can be truly transformative. Our very own Randy and Shannon Bocook serve the community in many ways, but they most enjoy their roles on the McAllister Elementary School PTSO where they help lead events, fundraisers, and food-drives like Sunshine Cart (pictured above) which benefits the hardworking teachers and staff of the elementary school. Similarly, most churches in the area have groups that support our local community: just ask a friend or your church office what opportunities might suit you best. Finally, many of Richmond Hill’s HOA neighborhoods organize social, educational, and recreational events for both children and adults, and most of these are volunteer based.
The best part? We know that this is not a comprehensive list of ways to get involved for the good of Richmond Hill. There are so many wonderful ways to volunteer your time here in this town. Tell us what we’ve missed here in the comments!
